EOI open for Footscray and Oakleigh housing developments

7 November 2024

VicTrack is inviting expressions of interest (EOI) from property developers to build homes on surplus rail land at Footscray and Oakleigh.

The two sites are near Oakleigh and Footscray stations – along the Metro Tunnel train corridor – close to public transport and existing services.

They are well suited for mid-rise living and have the potential to deliver around 240 homes, with a requirement to deliver a minimum of 10 per cent affordable homes.

The VicTrack land has been released for development in support of the Victorian Government’s Housing Statement

“We’re looking forward to partnering with experienced developers on this opportunity to create high-quality homes near transport and bring economic and social benefits to Victorians.”

“We are pleased to support the delivery of government initiatives, including the Housing Statement,” VicTrack Chief Executive Chris Olds said.

“VicTrack has significant landholdings around key transport sites across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria which can be developed for housing.

“Following recent successful development partnerships on projects at Glen Iris, Jewell and Hampton, we’re looking forward to partnering with experienced developers on this opportunity to create high-quality homes near transport and bring economic and social benefits to Victorians.”

Once EOI submissions have been evaluated, VicTrack plans to invite shortlisted developers to participate in a Request for Proposal (RfP) process.

Successful bidders will determine the type of housing offered at each site and will be required to start construction within 18 months.

The EOI campaign is being managed by Savills on VicTrack’s behalf, and closes on Friday 29 November at 3pm.
