Passengers now have better mobile coverage on Victoria’s five busiest regional rail lines - Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Traralgon and Seymour - which see more than 15.5 million passenger trips annually.
The Victorian Government is partnering with Telstra, Vodafone and Optus to construct up to 35 new mobile towers with cutting edge in-train technology to significantly improve coverage for passengers.
VicTrack is a key partner in the delivery of this priority project that boosts connectivity and productivity for thousands of commuters every day.
Mobile coverage has improved from less than 50 per cent to almost full network coverage on the five rail lines with the installation of the in-train mobile coverage booster. This coverage will be further enhanced with 35 new mobile towers currently being installed along the rail corridor.
The entire VLocity fleet has now been installed with mobile signal boosters, and all new VLocity trains will roll out with boosters already installed.
