To help people living in regional Victoria access public transport more easily, VicTrack has built new and upgraded car parking at five V/Line stations, as part of the Victorian Government’s Car Parks for Commuters Program.
All the car parking has lighting and CCTV for safety, as well as landscaping and wayfinding signage.
The Bendigo Line gained 200 new and upgraded parking spaces, which includes a total of eight accessible spaces. For people who prefer to cycle to their local station, we also installed 35 new bicycle hoops.
We upgraded the former gravel car park on the north side of the tracks at Gisborne Station, to provide 100 parking spaces, while Kyneton and Riddells Creek stations gained 50 new spaces each.
The car parks at Kyneton and Gisborne opened in March this year, with Riddells Creek Station car park opening in July following works by Macedon Ranges Shire Council to upgrade the access roads.
For those catching the train on the Geelong Line, North Shore Station also received a parking boost - with 200 new and upgraded spaces opening at the station in April, six of them accessible, along with 10 new bicycle hoops.
Finally, a new 40-space car park opened at Beaufort Station in May, with two accessible spaces and 15 new bicycle hoops, which will help passengers between Ararat and Ballarat access public transport more easily.
The new and upgraded car parking gives people across regional Victoria better access to public transport and supports the Victorian Government’s regional fare cap, introduced earlier this year.
