Public vote open on competition to rename high risk bridges

27 October 2017

VicTrack has opened public voting to rename five high-risk rail bridges in Moorabool Shire in a community vote under VicTrack’s Bridge Naming Competition.

Sally Burgess, Group Manager Property Services VicTrack today announced the opening of the public vote, designed to officially name bridges in fire or flood prone areas, known as ‘high-risk’ bridges, so emergency services can locate them more quickly and accurately.

The public are invited to vote for their preferred names for each of the bridges online via a dedicated competition webpage located at www.victrack.com.au/bridge with voting open until end November 2017.

Names commemorate a local community member or event, and follow criteria set out by the Office of Geographic Names (OGN).

The nominated names were shortlisted by a panel including the OGN, local emergency services, Moorabool Shire Council and VicTrack.

The bridges are located at:

  • McCormacks Road, Bacchus March
  • Paces Lane, Rowsley
  • Browns Lane, Parwan
  • Dunnstown Road, Navigators and
  • Portland Flat Road, Gordon.

People are encouraged to view the nominated names and the reasons they were nominated at VicTrack’s website.

VicTrack is working closely with Moorabool Shire Council throughout the competition, who are ensuring as many local people as possible are able to participate.
